A Paper Heart is the best I can do

as children we played hopscotch and house, life was so simple we laid there under the night sky counting the millions of stars
I promised you I'd pluck them like diamonds and give you each one just to see your smile, your happiness meant the world to me, life was black and white then,
did you love me too?
why did everyone stare when I grabbed your hand?
how could they be so harsh?
it was simple right?
I loved you, those girls taunted and teased us
did it hurt you?
I hope not
that was never my intention you were my world
thinking of you would put a smile on my face
we swapped plastic rings and promised this would last forever, hiding in closest we forgot the world
those girls couldn't hurt us here in our little sanctuary
I give you my heart it's the best I can offer, just be careful it's fragile, been shredded and torn,
loving you though is the tape holding it all together and all i can hope is that I can keep on loving you
