Alone

The girl everyone knew, the best friend, the silent one. Did anyone ever care about her? Did anyone ever see past her appearance? Everyday she awoke with the same sluggish lethargy of sleepiness going to school. Her grades were average. her friends always there fore her. But did they SEE inside she was just unstable? Unwilling to continue her meaningless life? She sat as she always did in the corner while her friends chatted on and on about their lives, their crushes and boyfriends, everything. Not once did they think to include their quiet friend. Always she sat there day after day, always she was whispered about by everyone around her. Finally one day she turned up the music so loud no one could hear her cry inside her room. She shed her tears until her breathing turned into gasps of air, her face wet and a mess from smudged make up. She held the shiny metal blade in the glow of the lamplight and watched as it glinted and reflected her tear streaked face. Outside her room her parents were yelling again and her little brother cried. She pressed the blade into the soft pale flesh at her wrists and watched almost in awe as blood bloomed forth. The next day she awoke as she always did and went to school as always. her friends sat around her and talked as usual, not noticing their friend in the corner huddled and holding her head in hear hands tears sliding down her cheeks. They girl stood and her friends stopped talking, only for a moment then continued not paying attention as the girl walked away from them. She entered the bathrooms holding the key to her happiness. She looked up into the mirror, smiling she placed the key to her lips almost kissing it. There was suddenly nothing only a cold darkness.
